This winter has left us without much for goose grazing. This requires me to supplement Polly and Fredrik’s food rations. This morning’s offering was a head of green, leafy lettuce. Bob said that when he entered the goose-yard Fredrik ran up and snatched the plastic bag holding the washed and prepped lettuce. He had to chase him round the yard to get it back!
I guess when you are hungry your manners go out the window.

What was on your breakfast menu this Sunday morning?

These pictures made me laugh, especially the last one..he looks kind of greedy, lol. My Mom grew up on a farm and to the end of her days had a terrible fear of geese. She used to tell us stories of how they chased and attacked her when she was a kid. Yours seem to have much nicer manners:)
Cynthia, they are Pilgrim geese and they are much nicer than other geese. Fredrik, the white one, is a bit testy because it is nearing to mating and nesting season again! He has been challenging everyone of late. Polly, the gray one, is just a sweetheart all the time!
Wonder if the word testy somehow originated with testosterone , lol!
You may be on to something! 😉
Aww, give them another head of lettuce. They deserve it for cuteness.
Anita, they will be getting apple slices for lunch and bits of broccoli for dinner! 😉
Now, photos of Bob tearing around after Frederik would have been too good!
I know! Annie, apparently… he was calling for me to help him catch the thief, but I was oblivious on the far side taking pictures of a fleet of American Robins. Sorry. 😦
Ha ha! I too would have loved to see photos of Bob on the chase! I can just see the look on his face too… I’m sure he was a tad peeved! It’s a good thing we can laugh about it all later and doesn’t it make for the best storytelling!! Polly is so resilient and patient. What a sweetie she is.
Lori, If she didn’t need a mate I wouldn’t even keep a gander… but don’t tell Fredrik I said that! 😉
I like geese, they’re feisty and have huge personalities. Shame about the little calling cards they leave everywhere, which are peculiarly adhesive… I think Fredrik would have been after my Sunday morning breakie too: a fresh peach, gluten free cereal and home made yoghurt!
Kate, I think Fredrik would have to get in cue behind me! YUMMY!
They do have huge personalities. Fredrik fits the profile, but Polly is a sweetheart!
Porridge of course….and no salad.
Me too, Tom! I added dried Montmorency cherries and some almonds to mine while it cooked. And yes, salad was not on the menu. 🙂
Hi Lynda- Give your geese carrots (I buy them in 5 lb bags) and cabbage. If you are ony feeding grains, add alaectrolytes and minerals. If you are feeding only crumbles, add grains. Hope al is well. Here is the latest article on the farm. for the B&B. Connie http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/44294441
Thank you so much, Connie, and thank you for sharing the link to your beautiful B&B! Now that you are done, and featured on Houzz, can you come and give me some expertise on our little Farmlet in the Freedom Hills? (I’m kidding, I know how busy your life is.)
Lynda~ I know you spoil your geese. I buy carrots in a 5 lb bag and give them that and cabbage during winter, to supplement their grain.
Connie
Do you know how much I appreciate your help with winter diet suggestions? Tons and tons, because my geese are hungry! Thank you so much, Connie!
I’ve heard of a wild goose chase, but never a mostly-tame goose chase. What fun!
Oh! Breakfast. Chicken tamales, coffee and orange juice. No, that’s not usual, but what can I say. I forgot breakfast until about 11 a.m., and decided it needed to be transformed into brunch.
Linda, do you think that a person who eats leftovers from dinner for breakfast, or for that matter breakfast for dinner, is going to say anything? Not on your life! Sounds delicious to me. 😀
Bob didn’t think so at the time, but yes, it was humorous! Thanks, Linda!
Oh how I miss my geese!
If we were neighbors I think I would have taken them in. I miss them too, Julie. xo
LOL I would have loved to see the video of this!
Me too! 😀
