Linda, she is, and she did! She will require quite a bit of elbow grease and some reconstruction of the laminate on the wooden bits. But the workings are so smooooooth…

Kate, I have been watching *Craigslist and trying to nab one of the vintage ladies for some time. They were evilly overpriced, mostly trashed from sitting in a shed or stored in the attic and the one’s that weren’t were snapped up in a heartbeat in our area. This one was the least expensive and the longest drive to go see her… a two hour drive!!! Her mechanical bits were well taken care of! She is 106 years old and has some loose laminate issues but I feel confident the cabinetry can be fixed. I am excited to set to work!

Claire, my intention was to buy one in working order to keep my feet warm and the blood flowing on cold winter days. She works, and is mechanically in great condition from needle to treadle! I will enjoy making quilt blocks in winter with warm feet and legs!

I have an identical machine. Mine was a gift from our former babysitter; it had belonged to her elderly mother and sat in a cold, damp barn for years. Its top is warped and needs repair, but a friend also has one and her solution was to have a marble slab made to fit over the entire top. It’s lovely. Not sure yet which I’ll do.
Karenlee, this one belonged to the seller’s mother. I think it was hard for him to let it go but I am fortunate in receiving it. I promised to email him a picture when I am done with the work.
For me, I choose to put in some elbow grease and polish her up. I want to use her in the winter when it is cold! 🙂
Have you seen any with a marble top? I had not, but remain intrigued. 🙂
Sadly, not with the machine still in it. They had all been converted into side tables.
I hope it is as good as it looks.

I do, Norma! She sits in front of my picture window in the living room. I have been working on cleaning a bit every day. It will be a long process, but well worth it when I am finished.

Yes, Gill, I had been looking at Singer 66s but found none with a treadle and I really need that movement in winter!

She still has a way to go, Steve. I am reassembling her and then must work on the finish of her cabinet and cleaning her ironwork. The cabinetry is going to have to wait until the weather warms up enough for me to do that out in the barn. Too cold! But I can do the ironwork in the house. I just discovered last week that she still has her gold on the Singer lettering and the emblems on the sides! I’m glad I don’t have to redo those, because when redone I always think it looks a bit garish like purple hair on an old woman.
