Caution Woman at Work

I’ve barely made a peep about what I have been up to, but in as few words as possible, I have been building, designing, painting, and in general making quite a mess!

Holy Cow this looks dangerous!

This bit is representative of the construction phase going on in here.  And I am relieved to tell you that the view is not this bad today.  I have some touching up to do on the shelving, and a really fun surprise for the finish… I’m calling the finish Chinese modern meets Mid Century modern.  If you remember Chinese Modern (straight lines and black lacquer)  you will get it when I post my finish.  😉

I am excited for the project to be done

I want to get back to quilting again.

~*~

FULL DISCLOSURE:  Bob helped with the drafting of the shelving brackets and the lifting of heavy things.  He also did the framing of my quilting table/desk to my specifications last year while I was away visiting my Auntie and the Missouri Star Quilt Co in Hamilton, MO.

Anita, it is fun to contemplate, exciting to start, and then it just gets grueling to finish. Well, I am having fun with the windows at the moment, but have to say that drafting patterns is not in my wheelhouse. I’m making a good stab at it, but whew is it making noodle mush of my brain! It WILL be nice when it is done… it will be NICE when it is done…it will be nice when it is DONE! LOL!

It’s all the hoses and cables that worry me, and heavy tools that would inevitably fling themselves onto my unsuspecting toes…. But I feel sure you have everything under control, and I’m looking forward to seeing the finish!

Kate, under control? Barely! HA, at least I haven’t shot myself with the nail gun yet, nor fallen off of the step ladder. 😉 Ah, the finish. Well, I am looking forward to it too actually. It has been going in fits and spurts for almost 9 months. But I am working on window treatments now and when those are done the nail/staple gun and compressor will leave the room! I appreciate them, but they do eat a lot of precious floor space.

There are times when that photo would be a perfect metaphor for my life. I enjoy travel and I enjoy house guests, but right now I’m ready to be done with both, get back into a routine, and start some writing projects that are just barely bubbling.

I didn’t know there was such a thing as Chinese modern. That’s inttriguing enough. I’m anxious to see what you come up with in the end. The very mention of shelves is exciting. I love shelves.

Linda, I love shelves too, and as I was building them I had thoughts of putting quilting books and fabric on them… but then all my fun tchotchkes filled them up. No matter, I still have room for the books and fabrics in here. Regarding Chinese Modern – this is similar to what I remember from when I was little: https://tinyurl.com/y98fd9sy

Wow! You have been busy! I have to ask (since it is what captured my attention first), are the dumbbells for use to weight something down in this process? Surely you weren’t doing bicep curls while you were doing construction? Ha ha!

Actually, they have been used for both purposes. I got the smallest one for therapy after my hand surgery, and the larger ones have been used (though not lately) for muscle toning. The 5 pounders are great for holding my ruler from slipping when I am using my rotary cutter too! I look forward to putting the weights and the Stott Pilates reformer (buried under the hoses and the air compressor) back into use when this job is done. 🙂
