Not quite right

I have been working on UFO’s again in my effort to clear out space and move things out the door.  So last week I took my (finally) quilted Winter Solstice to the fabric store to find a good match for the darkest blue in the fabrics I used.  I’m still wondering after all this time, years to be honest, why I did not buy the binding fabric when I purchased all the rest?

Not a clue.

Well, I had the shop lady helping me to look for a good match and she talked me into buying the fabric you see in the picture below.  I wasn’t sure, but she insisted that it worked because all the colors were in the other fabrics.

Is it me?  Now that I am home and looking at it I’m really not sure.  Please share your thoughts.  Does it work, or are the little buds in the pattern way out in left field for the style of the quilt and the other fabrics.

Second issue:  Look at the cut edges!  I have never received a quilt back with edges trimmed that out of whack!  I can fix it, but,  I paid them to do it.

This is the original pattern design by Holly Hunter below.

Please do share your thoughts and don’t be shy.  It’s waited this long for a finish so a few more weeks of searching won’t make that much difference at this point.  😉

NOTE:  a UFO in quilting means “UN finished object.”

ALSO: If you like the pattern, then clicking on Holly Hunters name above will take you to the web page where you can order it.

Thanks for visiting

The buds do seem a little busy to me, as well as sort of pioneer woman meets Victorian lady (the large florals). It might be more the color that I’m unfond of. If it were me, I might try matching the cream colored background of the large blocks for the binding, or a plain, darker blue. The buds would be ok if their blue background was a better match — but of course it’s hard to tell how my computer is rendering all the colors. That match might be fine.

Thank you Linda. I was wanting a plain dark blue, but being tired I just wanted to get home and get going… Never happened did it.

“…sort of pioneer woman meets Victorian lady” Nailed it! 😀

I understand your concern. The binding fabric just doesn’t hit me right…..I”d like something closer to the corner blocks…..easy for me to day!!!!!! I know it’s so frustrating trying to find just the right fabric. I love the other fabrics in the quilt. Good luck!

Thank you, “Someone”. I’d been searching for a solid in the dark blue of the corner fabric. I’ll just have to stick to my guns and only buy that color, if I can find it…

Probably so, Tom. I’ve placed a sample of the corner block into a sandwich baggie and put it in my purse. Now, anytime I’m in downtown Huntsville I can pop into one of the (very few) quilt shops that are still left. Something will turn up sooner or later.

I’m a bit of a rebel when it comes to my quilts. Personally I would use a faux piping of red to distract from the designs on that blue. Put a little piece of red behind that blue to see how you like it.

Thank you for defining UFO. Inserting that at the first had me wondering what had happened in your neck of the woods! 😂

You know me – untrained in anything quilting (or sewing for that matter) but rather the eye of simply liking what I see or not. I agree with “not quite right” and I see that you have many commenters with sensible thoughts on a solution. I’m not so interested in pretty or matching – it’s all about the warmth factor – function and practicality for me!!

Lori, the edges are cut and trued now, and I will continue my search for the best binding… some day I will find it, but in the meantime I have lots of other projects that are needing finishing. 😀

” And sometimes I just think what the hell – just get it finished Ceciia!!”

Celi, that is about where I am right now… just getter done. I properly trimmed the badly “professionally” cut edges and I think it will do just fine, when/if I find that just right blue binding. But for now, on to other things that are filling up my workspace. Get them done, move them out! 😉
