The Robins Have Landed

Every year we await the return of the Robins and Jays at the end of winter.  Much like those in California await the return of the Swallows to Capistrano, though, perhaps, with a little less significance.  This year was a surprise as it would seem that they all came to our holly tree before heading out to all points in the area!

They left nothing behind when they flew off.

Have the locals started showing up in your area?

Breakfast is served

This winter has left us without much for goose grazing.  This requires me to supplement Polly and Fredrik’s food rations.  This morning’s offering was a head of green, leafy lettuce.  Bob said that when he entered the goose-yard Fredrik ran up and snatched the plastic bag holding the washed and prepped lettuce.  He had to chase him round the yard to get it back!

I guess when you are hungry your manners go out the window.

Photo Friday: snow day

Bob came in from the cold asking,  “How do you tell the difference between snow and sleet?”

A cursory glance through the window had me claiming that it was sleet.  I went outside and it sounded like sleet.  Hitting the ground you could hear the little rasp as it landed on leaf and dried blade.

Suddenly, I realized that what was on the porch and leaves did not have that characteristic pillow shape of sleet.  It was perfect little snowflakes!  I only wish the cold didn’t make me shake.

Stay in, stay warm, and if you must go out dress warm and drive carefully!
