I recounted this story two years ago, and because it is one of my favorites I am sharing it with you again. Besides, some of my newest friends haven’t seen it yet.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I didn’t think your dad harsh, particularly, but I might have let up just a bit once the point was made.

I’m not a great turkey fan myself. In fact, we made the change around here about five years ago, and maybe more. Apple-stuffed pork loin. Pepper-crusted beef loin. Chicken and dressing casserole. Everyone’s been much happier since!

I do love me some good mincemeat. I don’t use the kind that has meat, though. I buy English fruit mincemeat (mostly from Vermont Country Store), then add nuts, more raisins, dried cherries and apricots, along with an extra splash of brandy. Oh, my! is it good!

Lynda, this is the first time since Bob’s mother died that we have had turkey for Thanksgiving. Bob has been talking about it for the past three months and he wanted to cook it in his smoker… I still don’t care for it, but I wouldn’t deny him his pleasure in preparing and eating the bird. The fact that he got a free range bird and smoked it does help. As for the fruity mincemeat, well, you can have my slice! πŸ˜‰

Ha ha ha!! We had the same motto at our house… you wanted it (dished it up), now you EAT IT ALL. No, it wasn’t wrong what he did. You learned a valuable lesson; ok, maybe several lessons. I see far too many kids waste food on their plates. I see ugly table manners… and I try to be thankful (sometimes) for growing up the hard way!

      Lori, YUP! πŸ˜‰

However, in defense of the smaller children at the table, well, their parents aught to get a clue. If you pile on more than a tablespoon of each food onto their plate, then don’t expect them to clean it. Their little tummies are just too small for all that food!

Thanks, Dianne, it is ironic that this thanksgiving Bob wanted to smoke a turkey… It took all day to get prepped and done, but I actually ate some! We’ve been married 32 yrs next June, and this is only the second time we’ve done turkey for Thanksgiving. πŸ˜‰
