This will be short as I type with one finger.
Surgery seems to have gone well. Pain meds had to be doubled the first two days, then only Tylenol, and since Friday no meds ! 😀
Swelling was horrifying! Fingers looked like Vienna sausages having no wrinkles at all!
Swelling is now gone. 😀
Post-op visit today to remove stitches and get new permanent cast…
I hope I survive two months of this. The temporary one has had me in moments of delirium because of the suffocating feeling and immobility it induces… I find that to be totally ironical having had bouts of agoraphobia over the last few years. LOL!
*ON CASTROPHOBIA: The real term is cast claustrophobia. I was feeling the need to rip the thing off with my teeth on several occasions this past week. Thankfully it went away spontaneously, by the end of the week, when the last of the swelling went down! I hope it really was swelling induced and will not return. 😯
Meanwhile, Bob will continue to do all my chores that require both hands.
BIG CHEERS FOR BOB!
Comments will of course cheerfully accepted, but won’t be responded to. I’m sorry.
Well done indeed Bob! Relieved to hear your fingers don’t look like that any more 😀
glad you left the casts on. Hope everything is much better soon.
I have heard that casts are a complete misery! But, when everything is healed nicely and you are back to enjoying life with both hands (and arms) again, you’ll be glad to have the miserable part in the past. Bob is dedicated… a very good man. 🙂
Oh, I’m so with you on the intolerableness (-ability?) of a hand in a cast. This monstrous flipper thing that is completely useless, cumbersome, hideously painful when knocked accidentally, that destroys one’s hard-earned dexterity. Cast-rophobia is entirely warranted. I’m glad the pain has abated and that you’ll be able to resist the urge to rip it off with your teeth…
I’m glad it all went well. Hoping you have a speedy recovery. Bob’s a keeper!
I had a friend who had castrophobia too. She could not sleep well at night because her leg couldn’t escape the trap it was in. It was hot and it itched…and she wanted to rip it off too. Probably would have, but it was not possible. I have never had a cast, but I know I would feel the same way too.
Respond to us; whatever for?! It’s our job to send you get well wishes and funny stories to cheer you up (and make sure you’re well and truly over that nasty cast-ro-phoebia!: )
Sending healing wishes and a big “Get well soon!” (And Hugs, of course; )
Hope you’re well very soon.
How unpleasant 😦 Two months! Oh, how GREAT it will be when that thing comes off again. I bet you’re counting the hours. Gute Besserung 🙂
I damaged my hand this spring in a fall. I didn’t need a cast, but I had some of that Vienna-sausage-like swelling, and I sympathize completely. A friend who had a cast on her leg experienced that castrophobia, but she said exactly what you did: that it disappeared after the swelling went down, and never came back. I wish the same to you!
I hope the two months go as quickly as possible for you. I suspect you’ll develop a new rhythm for your days that will help things along — and if you can one-finger-peck out a message for us now and then (like, “Still here! coping!) it would be great. We’ll be thinking of you, for sure!
It sounds like you might be through the worst part. Hopefully this time will fly like all the other days! Hugs!
Thank you, Patti.
