It’s a bit melancholy for me this round, but I will share with you what I began several months back. 🙂
Each month we took Buddy in to be groomed because he was too big and too HaiRy for us to keep him looking and smelling nice. And each month the groomer sent him home in a cute kerchief tied about his neck. I couldn’t throw them out.
hey! it’s fabric after all! ok?
So I began making quilt blocks out of them
Some were bones and some were balls
and I didn’t get the Buddy Quilt done in time…
I am going to finish it and will include a blank block in the middle to put our dog’s names on it. I feel it is a great save of what otherwise would be landfill fodder. It will be a good memory quilt to honor Buddy and all the other pups past and present.
And now go see what other’s have made this past month for Scrap Happy!

Oh! I’m welling up here. What a great idea and it will always remind you of him.
Lynn, I know it will, and thank you.
how lovely! a quilt in memory of Buddy! And rather good of your dog groomer to send dogs home clean and with a new necktie after each grooming!
Claire, I have a confession to make: I used to think that they were silly. Wasteful. And one day I realized, that no matter what I thought about them, I had been saving them. That’s when I got the idea for the quilt. 😉
I know how hard it is to have to make the transition from one good dog to another. You have my condolences on Buddy’s passing. This is a brilliant way to repurpose those neckerchiefs. I only have a few from when our mini Poodle came home from the groomer (he didn’t always get one, probably due to bad behavior). I included one in a quilt I made back then but there are a couple others I could put to good use… 🙂
sorry to hear of your loss, what a great idea and it will always remind you of Buddy.
Thank you, Jean.
A lovely idea! Looking forward to seeing it done!
Me too, Deb. I’m thinking I will use Kate’s method of quilting the blocks before assembling them into a quilt. 🙂
That is a really good idea. Mouse doesn’t need a groomer, but he has a wardrobe of several bandannas and I’m now determined there will be more. One day we will need to say goodbye, and on that day, I’ll be glad I have something to make to remember him by.
Thank you, Kate. Before he got so ill he used to come into the studio and put his nose up to the bunch hanging there and breathe deeply. It was a little thing, but meaningful for him I guess. The groomers adored him. Everyone seemed to love Buddy.
Awwww, sweet boy.
That he was. ❤
What a terrific idea! I especially like the way you’re going to expand it a bit, and include the names of all the special ones. The bones made me smile: very clever.
Thank you, Linda. It seemed appropriate to include them as they were all well loved. Those bones are actually a modified “Bow Tie” block. Not my invention, but I was happy to put it to use! 😉
Great idea to have kept the ” neck ties” that belonged to Buddy. I think the quilt will be really unique and sentimental as well.
Thank you, Yvonne. I am not the first to employ this block. It is a very old Bow Tie modification. I enjoy knowing is made from Buddy’s “old clothes”, as it were, and that this is also a very old tradition to honor a loved one.
This is such a sweet and tender way to remember your dogs. Nicely done. Alys
Thank you, Alys.
That is a marvelous remembrance of all your pets!
Thank you, Kathy. I hope to have it completed before winter ends. And yet, there is something satisfying in just quietly working on each block…
Nothing else to add except “perfect!”: )
Thank you, Deb. I will do my best.
What a great way to pay homage and remember your Buddy and those before him.
Thank you, Joanne. I keep working on it a bit each week. It will be done in the not too distant future. 🙂
