While I have been gone I am trying to set up my site so I can sell my quilts and other makes. While I was gone, or perhaps when I chose to start paying for my add free web pages, WordPress has changed the writing and posting experience. Sigh… I hate to say it, but I am having a very hard time trying to figure it all out. Old brain cells perhaps? Or are you suffering with the changes too?
I do have wonderful things to share with you, and I will share them. When I can figure out how to put them into a post!!!
Well, I guess I got bold figured out. Any helpful hints will be cheerfully accepted and appreciated!
Addendum: Apparently, I have been on WordPress for 12 years now… That’s a long time.

Oh, good luck! I guess the only thing is to keep trying to do things and hope something works out. Is it Gutenberg that is flumoxing you? You can install a plugin that allows you to use the Classic Editor…

A plugin isn’t necessary. I’m still using the classic editor. Go to your “all posts” page. You’ll see “Add New” at the top of the page, with an arrow next to it. Click on the arrow, and you’re given a choice between the block editor and the classic editor.
If you want to edit a post, go to that same “all posts” page, and hover over the title. You’ll see “classic editor” as an option. Click that, and all is well.
If you’re having trouble getting to the ‘all posts’ page, add wp-admin/edit.php after the com/ in your URL.
I haven’t even tried to post there for years…I miss doing it and live journal.

I haven’t had time to look at any of the changes, but I did struggle through the last two posts I published. There is so much happening here my head is spinning from that alone! Why not add WordPress to the mix? Ha ha!
I loved hearing your voice the other day. Forrest has put in for retirement in January. We’re elated! I’m hoping we can make a trek your way next year – fingers crossed… as soon as we get the fawns released and get the chickens and dogs set up with a sitter.
You don’t need a plug-in, it’s all available through your own home page if you know where to look. I just emailed you the short cut 🙂 And yes, 12 years is an extremely long time, many congratulations!
Good to see you posting again Lynda. I hope all is well with you. I stopped writing posts on my blog for that very same reason. Plus a few personal reasons that are keeping me from internet time I did know how to change to the classic editor but now I can’t find the link. WordPress may have removed it. I also had the thought of selling my quilts and other crafts. Its been 13 years since I left Blogger to move over to wordpress for the quilting blog and 7 years since I started the frugal living blog. Stay safe
I think the new editor is probably the way to go for you so my advice is to stick it out and read any tutorials you can find.
Hi Lynda, you are not alone gettinh mad with the new posting. It took me more than a week to post new photos. I have finally posted a few days ago, but people can only see them on diaporama. That’s not to bad. Next time when I have written the text, I will open a new block for each photo. I hope you will get it Lynda!

Lynda, I remembered how to change to classic editor in wordpress. I do it one post at a time.
Go to the dashboard, select “posts” – “all posts” which gives you a list of all your posts even those still in draft. Hover over any with the mouse and it shows – edit, classic editor, quick edit, copy, trash, and preview. What I do is create a post with a title and a line or two. Save it. Then go to the dashboard and access the new post there. I’m doing it this way until I’ve had time to learn more about the new stuff. With the constant increase in price I’m seriously considering leaving wordpress.
It sure is aggravating when software changes out from under you! It will get familiar enough to get by after a while.
Perhaps, but I am holding out for finding and working with the old editor if I can… I hope I can. 😉
I found the new block editor difficult at first, too. I kept playing around with it and now I’ve figured out how to do almost all of the things I used to do in the classic system. Some “features” are still frustrating. For example, it’s apparently no longer possible to cut a picture from one place and paste it into another place in a post. Instead I have to click where I want the cut picture to go, type the slash key (/), choose Image, and reselect the picture from the Media Library. In any case, take heart, and with some practice you’ll figure things out.
I do the same as what Anita said — I start the post in the new editor, and save the draft. Then go to my dashboard and underneath the title of that post, I choose “Classic editor” and finished typing the post there. There are some nice features in the new editor, but it is too hard to add tags I have already used, etc.
Same thing happens to me.
If I don’t post for awhile, I come back and find big changes have been made.
The changes seem to always make things more complicated (for no reason).
There is a choice still, between the new Block Editor and the old Classic Editor.
I choose the old Classic Editor every time I post something..
I hope they never delete that option..

Argh! I’m not fond of the wordpress changes, either. It destroys my poetry so terribly that I don’t post it anymore, just my writing and sewing things. I tried to set up to sell, but gave up as it’s just to difficult to understand for me. That’s okay. I’ll survive. And, you will too! 🙂 ❤
Hello Bear, Sorry to get a reply so late after you kindly posted. I have been REALLY busy in the garden and have let the whole “sales” setup go by the wayside. This was not a good thing to do as I have just received a notice from WP that I will be charged for another year very soon!!! Sigh, this is not good business planning. I too have found it difficult, but my husband has been giving me tips and pointers. We’ll see. However, if I don’t do it soon then I should probably cut my losses and end the premium settings. And yes, we will survive! 🙂
I’m trying to remember why I paid this year when all I do is the same old thing. Couldn’t figure out how to sell here… And the Kentucky taxes on internet sales and purchases are a killer… So I will let it expire next year.
From your reply to the previous comment, it seems like you’re okay, even if busy. Hope you both got vaccinated. We did in March, and our world has lately been getting back to normal.
Steve, I/we are doing well. Our state has fully reopened and everyone (who wants to) is back to work. I have many blogging friends who are quilters and they seemed to have dug in and quilted with abandon. Me? I gave up my quilting and went into my survival mode. I chose to live in the garden every day, even through the winter! My garden drive saw me through this insanity and in the process I found my green thumb again! I grew 95% of my vegetables and flowers from seed this year. Mostly successful, though there were some terrific failures too. Tomatoes and peppers are from the local garden center. And we built more raised beds to put it all in. I think I need to make myself write again. It is time!
Hi Lynda, just checked here instead of FB and glad to see you’re okay! Garden is sure a good place to be right now. If you ever want to sew again my suggestion is masks! I bought one last year from Jenny’s Masks on Etsy and she just opened again, already overwhelmed with requests. Stay safe! Andrea
