A Saturday Snippet

I haven’t talked about it.  I wasn’t sure what to say, but the Little dog is very sick.  All we know for sure is that his kidneys are not doing their job.

Lots of tests, lots of pampering, LOTS of extra trips outside to “GO.”

When I know what is going on, then you will too.  In the meantime, Buddy keeps us entertained…

Are you jealous of the Little dog, Buddy?

I think so!

Hm, perhaps we’ll need to get him one of these in his size?  😉

I made this. ‘-)

To understand the following, you would have to know that Tucker stole my Gutermann quilting thread and I couldn’t find it.  I eventually found it and posted this:

https://pixilatedtoo.wordpress.com/2012/03/29/what-once-was-lost/

The Managing Director sent me a message on Facebook that I didn’t see until months later wherein he had offered to replace the thread.  I explained that the thread color in question was not a usual color for my work and thanked him anyway.  He then said to name my thread and I told him I could use some polyester sewing thread in color 102 (gray) which I use a lot of in my machine piecing.  I received the thread shortly thereafter.  😉

I feel it was a very generous, and much appreciated gift!

The following is my response to him.

Letter to Managing Director at Gutermann Thread

February 5, 2013

Dear Mr. *******,

I would like to properly thank you for sending me the two spools of gray sewing thread to replace the quilter’s thread my dog Tucker chewed up.   To show my thanks I have made you a little gift.  It is a bit primitive, as I am still learning,

[EDIT]

Sincerely,

Lynda Swink & Tucker too

Tucker, my little (B)Rat Terrier

Oh yes, and Tucker wanted you to know that he has promised to never chew up such fine thread again!

My enclosure…

One six and one half-inch Mini Quilt depicting a spool of chewed thread.   😉    The work is machine pieced, needle turned applique, with hand quilting.  I almost sent this without taking a picture of it!  (That would have made me sad.)

I had fun!

PS:  I still owe you a post, but I am trying to figure out how best to write it and if it even wants writing.  😛

Thoughts on housekeeping and hAiRy DoGs…

If you own dogs you know they shed.  If you own big hairy dogs you know they shed A LOT!

I grew up hearing my mother and my friends mother’s euphemisms  about dust bunnies and kittens under the bed…  Oh the horror!  Yeah, well they didn’t live with Buddy.

I don’t get dust bunnies, nor dust kittens, I get dust buffaloes!

They congregate in the corners, hide under the sofa, the chest of drawers, and lurk under the bed, but the worst is when they creep into the kitchen and …

Well, you know what I mean.  Now there are jokes about your food not tasting right without the cat or dog hair in it, but really?  I don’t find them humorous.  So, I have banished the dogs from the kitchen, at least during mealtimes, and the looks I get are pathetic.

Buddy, “Look mom, I’m being such a good dog!  Can I come in now?”

Me,  “No, sorry boy, I’m making dinner.”

Later, after dinner…

I ask you, “Is he not pathetic looking?”  It is an hour and a half later and he hasn’t moved,  “Good boy!” I tell him.

And the very next morning…

“Aw, Mom!  We’re being really good, and the morning sun feels so nice…”

And what can I say?  Sighing softly to myself, not a thing.

Instead, I head for the vacuum cleaner.

Do you have rules and limits for your pets?

Photo Friday: on the trail again

When I lived in California I used to go hiking, often.  I also rode my bicycle to work at least three days per week, and every weekend as well.  I went to Pilates classes twice a week and was in the best shape I had ever been in my life.

Then we moved.

Now before I say another word you must know that I adore where we live and have no intentions of ever going back to suburbia.

That said, I do miss the ease of being able to hop on my bicycle to go anywhere I liked, and my hiking friends who kept me on the trail as often as I was able to go.  Since moving I have been plagued with back issues and this finds me in not very good shape at all!  I have gained two inches around my waist, and lack the vigor I once had.

I am 59, and I believe too young to be this bad off.  So this week I have started a new path to regain my health.  I ordered two books which are:

  1. Hiking Alabama, 3rd: A Guide to Alabama’s Greatest Hiking Adventures (State Hiking Series) by Joe Cuhai
  2. Rail-Trails Southeast: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, from Wilderness Press

You may find these helpful books, or others for your locality, available through Amazon.  (I received no compensation for these endorsements!)

Now I am not going to jump into cycling marathons, or try to hike an 800 foot elevation change, but I have to start somewhere and so Wednesday I started here…

This is a paved, level, two-mile round trip.  I saw a total of two people here during my visit.

Now some might find that lonely, but  there were other encounters along the way…

A hawk

Silent sippers at a trail side Butterfly bar

One graced me by landing on my shoulder.  She was lovely!

A shy little turtle.  Don’t you find the pattern on his shell lovely?

A lazing caterpillar who warmed itself in the sun

And while I was busy with eyes looking through the lens of my camera, the clouds moved in and threatened rain!

I stopped.  “Just  one more shot.”  I told my companions.   “You see, I have been working on getting water droplets to clear up and pop in my photos.”   (I think I am very close with this one!)  I think they were unimpressed…

A tulip tree leaf that was still wet from the morning’s rain.

Stopping at the paved trail’s end,

I promised myself to return another day and continue on, taking the shady trail into the woods.

I turned to my companions and found them looking wistfully in the direction leading back to the car.

“Ok Boys, let’s go home!”

What do you enjoy doing to stay fit?

PostscriptToday instead of taking the car to the post office like usual, I took the little dog and we walked the two miles!  😉
