applause… Pleeease!

I know I am supposed to wait for the big reveal,

BUT

I can’t wait.

Look what I did all by myself today!

(Sound like a little kid don’t I?)

Made a template (hint, use an old blade for cutting paper)  😉

drilled holes through paper and into studs

used drill pattern to properly space drilled holes into the frame/brace (hint, use wood blocks under two by four to prevent drilling into your new floor)  🙂

assemble and attach frame to wall,

VOILA!   My new sewing table!

I’m so excited to have this (almost) done, and it’s level too!  😀

I still have to paint the frame and legs, secure the top to the frame, and put some trim along the back and side of the table.

More later!

No obvious signs of the Christmas spirit

It’s just the two of us here, Bob and me.  Christmas is neither bought nor made, decorations are nil due to mass reconstruction on my craft room, whose contents BTW, have currently taken over the living room.  No tree, no trimmings here…  Oh wait, does the wreath on the door count?

The project was supposed to be easy-peasy:  Paint, hang shelves, pull up the old carpet and lay out new vinyl floor.  (insert sound of car crash here)

Nothing is ever easy when it comes to repairs in this house.

It was supposed to be easy, oh wait, I think I am repeating myself.  But it was supposed to be easy…

You know, like roll back the carpet, vacuum the floor and roll out the new vinyl.

NOT.

There was the carpet and pad, the old vinyl floor, the old 8 inch glued down tiles, and then it was the 4 by 8 ft piece of 3/4 inch rotten, smelly plywood that had to be lifted and replaced first.

My 13.5  X 9.25 future quilting/sewing space.  The pictures on the wall are photos of how I want my space to look…  I’ve a long way to go and they help keep me motivated.

It is all supposed to be done and moved back before Dec. 25th so I CAN decorate.   We’ll see!  In the meantime, I have my Christmas music to keep me motivated and in the spirit of the season.  I want this project DONE.  😉

Oh yeah, and  did I forget to mention the six holes I punched into the wall with a wonder-bar when I took out these?

A pair of sorta cute, but totally non practical corner shelves.

NOTE:   After  our best friends left to go back to California, I had given myself a week to enjoy our clean and tidy living space, then it was back to work!  I have made much progress since the picture above.  I hope to be posting completion pictures by this Friday, or Monday!  STAY TUNED!  😉

Uh-oh.

Needing a haircut the Lady of the Farmlet thought,

“I cut Bob’s hair for him with the clippers… I’ll just put the biggest comb on and do it myself!”  It only took one swipe of the clippers to realize my mistake, but it was already too late.

I look in the mirror and try to imagine myself as one of those artsy looking old fems in dangly earrings and folksy clothing.  Nope, the vision bubble pops and it is still me with awful hair staring back.  Is it possible to be too frugal?  Yes.  It truly is.

I told Bob I won’t be going out in public.  His response?

“You can wear a hat.”

Note to self:

NEXT TIME GO TO THE NEAREST CLIP JOINT AND PAY $10.00.  IT COULDN’T POSSIBLY LOOK ANY WORSE.

!!!  😐  !!!

UPDATE

So many of you wanted pictures… My sister called almost as soon as I hit the publish button!!!  So I went out looking for a picture of an artsy looking ‘old lady’ with dangly earrings, whose hair looked roughly like mine, and I found her!

So, wadda’ya think?  Should I dye my hair orange and get a tattoo?

In Awe of Autumn

We had visitors, best friends from sunny California who, thankfully, wanted to see and do it all here in our neck of the woods.   And so it was that we went out every day for a week to experience the loveliness first hand.  Of course this meant a lot of pictures!

I want to post them all, but to your relief I will hold back and try to post only the best.  Please take a moment to click each photo for a clearer look at each photograph!

Today I bring you Autumn’s splendor

The Autumn here is beautiful, but fleeting.  In one week a couple of frosty nights can bring it on in a matter of days, and just as quickly a bit of rain and wind can take it all away!

For us California Ex-pats, it is a stunning vision that we are just not used to seeing.  It saddens us that it is here for such a short time.  Thankfully, the color returns dependably each year, but sometimes, like this year, it is simply stunning!

*NOTE:  Poison Sumac has composite leaves with smooth edges, whereas the Staghorn Sumac has composite leaves with serrated (toothed) edges.  That said, if you are uncertain about the plant, then by all means be safe and don’t touch it!
