Dina liked the dress the moment she saw it.  The color, the miles of tulle in the skirt, in a word, perfect!

Pushing the dress deep into the tub, she held it under the water until all the air was released, and it had quit bubbling.  Then she left it to soak for a bit.

Returning later, she removed it from the tub, drained out the water, and refilled it with fresh for a rinse.  Gently she removed the dress, placed it onto a hangar and hung it outside to dry.

Now, what to do with the body?  she thought.

Act I:  Scene I

NARRATOR:

The twins were rotten.  What one didn’t think of the other one did.   Of late their favorite activity was pulling pranks on little kids in the neighborhood.

Today, however,  they were investigating  a  rumor they’d heard, about some mystery beast out by the pond.  Several people claimed that it was eating small animals about town, and peeking into windows at night, and that they absolutely wanted to see!

Standing silently they survey the water.

TWIN I:     What’s that?

TWIN II:   Nuthin’ scardy cat!

TWIN I:     Something touched my leg!

TWIN II:   Yeah, right.

(A twig snaps…)

THE TWINS:  Screaming in unison (they run offstage)

(A young child snickers nearby.)

Creative Writing: the elopement

I haven’t been writing much lately.   Too busy shopping for Farmlets, packing and sorting.  Then I found the photo below in my mail box.   It’s from Rochelle Wisoff-Fields at Addicted to Purple.

The Elopement

Arriving with her little suitcase she sat in the bar against the wall.  She preferred this seat because it afforded her the best vantage for surveying the room.  From here she could see the length of the room from the front window to the back entrance.  Ordering herself a drink for the evening she expectantly watched and waited till closing.

~*~

All the regulars knew this was Juliette’s seat and they made sure it was always waiting for her by telling her story:

“Yeah!   Her boyfriend tells her,  ‘Meet me at 6:00 and we’ll elope.’  That was over twenty years ago…”

Searching  the streets looking for just the right one, surveying his trophies, musing, “How easy it used to be.”  She walked the gutter, her back to him, thumb out.  He pulled alongside.  Before he could ask she slid over the car door and into the seat in a fluid movement.

Smiling, joking, laughter, he shy, she bold.   They drove on for a while, neither cared where they might end up; each knew their destination would be secluded.

Noticing his photographs she quipped, “Old girl friends?”

He replied, “You might say that.”

Smiling,  they  thought, “This’s gonna’ be easy.”

NOTE:  This was a walk on the wild side for me.  I took one look at the photo and there I was.

Are you shocked?

I was!
