The pollen season and COPD

Dear Friends,

Poor Bob has been very sick from all the pollen in the air.  Outside everything is covered with a dusty,  yellow haze.  He has been trying to sleep sitting up for almost a week now, and had to take off work Thursday and Friday.  He is taking five prescription medications, and using my old nebulizer to give himself breathing treatments.   I saved it for emergencies and have only used it twice since we moved.  Glad I did!

It is hell for him, but equally so for me.  Last night at dinner I thought I might have to call 911 when he began coughing, wheezing and gasping for air.  Eventually, he was able to calm down the spasms, but was still unable to sleep laying down.

He is exhausted and his ribs hurt.

Dinner With Friends

Butchered and put into the freezer for keeping Harold consumed his parts bit by bit over the year. He searched the shops for just the right seasonings to prepare each bite. Deliciously braised, roasted, or stewed he prepared them with care, then invited friends and neighbors over to enjoy his lovely culinary delights.

After each feast he’d sneak the bones out in the dark of the night to dispose of them in public bins. Tonight’s deposit; two femurs.

Don’t you find it odd he did this?  Safe to bet, it kept the neighboring dogs from tipping them out to take home.

The 1857 Quilt: the first six!

This is a slap dash post, but I have to get it up now or I’ll just let it ride for another six blocks.

The following are my attempts at needle turned applique.  I have done it before, but never for such a large project as this!  This is 64 blocks from an antique wedding quilt to be dished out each month a few at a time.  I am playing catch up as I only started last month… that meant that I was already 4 blocks in the hole!  I have one left for February, and then the three for this month to do.  I will get there!

first-sixI must admit, I had a real hate thing going on the upper right flower block.  It was far more complicated than it looks to do that orange part of the blossom.   It was supposed to be satin stitched and I just couldn’t pull it off!   In the end, I cheated and used a blanket stitch on my sewing machine to finish the edge, cut it with a selvage, then turned it under and made a bazillion little stitches to hold it down.  In spite of that,

I am learning tons, having fun, and getting better block by block.
