Copywright – Douglas M MacIlroy
For Friday Fictioneers this week I offer you in just over 100 words my flash fiction entry:
Pure Imagination
Nap time, Bethany.
Sea Urchins don’t take naps.
I see.
The sea urchins giggled uproariously as she walked away.
Suddenly from the hallway a deep-sea diver appeared with something in her hand.
“What’s that?” the urchins cried in unison.
It’s sea urchin food.
“No it’s not!” the littlest urchin quipped. “Sea Urchins like cookies!”
“Well”, said the diver, “I happen to know that urchins eat whatever they find as they creep along the ocean floor. Seaweed, dead things…”
“EEW GROSS!” yelled littlest in disbelief.
The deep-sea diver offered to make cookies for after nap.
Suddenly the reef was barren.

This post is to honor the seven innocents in Utah whose mother lacked the skill to care for her children.
RIP little ones.

Thank you Rachel of Addicted to Purple for the opportunity, and pleasure of writing on this great prompt for Friday Fictioneers.

Tee Hee! (Excellent job, of course; )
Boy, I’d sure love to play Dress Up at their house:D
I totally would love to do that too, Deb!
Well done. I like this.
Thank you, Caerlynn!
Lovely little story which reminds me of teaching my grandsons to suspend disbelief on a country walk – we had to cross a plank bridge with a troll underneath it!
Thank you, Liz! Your grandsons are blessed to have you and your imagination to guide them. 😀
Yep! You captured the play of children perfectly – and their willingness to comply when offered a reward. 🙂 Great job!
Thank you, Judah! I would have loved to have been the parent in this photo.
Ha ha ha! What a clever deep-sea diver!
She does know how to motivate her audience. 😉
Thank you, Lori!
awww such a sweet story. like this a lot 🙂
Thank you, KZ! I really enjoyed yours as well. Now that I’m feeling better I will need to keep up!
Nice job showing how children dig in their heels then comply when given the right incentive.
Alicia, thank you. My teaching Profs at uni would say that my persuasion was extrinsically motivated and should have been intrinsically motivated… But a fresh baked cookie now and again is a good thing. 😉
Love this! Your descriptions of the giggling sea urchins and the barren reef were so good I was able to visualize them.
Laurie, I was hoping you would like it. I had to kind of cheat with the italics to indicate the change of voice from DSD to SU to keep it nearer to 100 Words and hope the reader would forgive the technical fault. LOL!
Just put my own little sea urchin to bed. What a great slice of life story.
Jessica, I’m so glad you could relate! Thank you!
I like your story and enjoyed reading your blog about your farmlet (cute name). You are very good at this! Thanks, Nan 🙂
Thank you, Nan, I hope you will visit again!
Lovely story that brought back memories of our own children when they were small. It’s wonderful when family members inspire creativity in children. That was a great song. Well written. I could see the children and mother. 🙂
Michael Feinstein, has the best voice and a wonderful children’s album/dvd (that is the cover in the video). I used to play it for my classes of 1st and 2nd graders often. Thank you, Patricia!
Dear Lynda,
Pure Imagination is the Purely Perfect Title. Cute story.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Dear Rochelle,
I’m glad you enjoyed the story and I hope you listened to the featured song by Michael Feinstein too! He has such a wonderful voice.
Shalom,
Lynda
And what wonderful imagination this story has! Lovely.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! It has been a while since I last wrote, and I have to admit I have been missing it. 🙂
I haven’t missed a FF since I started in the fall… addicted, I am. We’ve missed you!
Thank you for making me feel so special…
on my Birthday.
Your birthday! Well, HaPpY bIrThDaY Lynda! Hope it was grand!
Thank you! It was uneventful, and as I mentioned above, that was a good thing… all things considered!!! 😀
Happy birthday Lynda! Hope Healing carries on apace! (Best wishes & MANY hugs for both; )
Urgh! My original comment got eaten or misfiled, Deb. Sorry! Thank you so much for the Birthday/get well wishes! 😀
LOL, no worries… Just as long as you got it; that’s all I care about: )
😉
Oh dear, I wasn’t paying attention and now I realize that in this context my reply makes no sense! The short of it? The uneventful B-Day was preferable to last Monday’s too exciting day! 😉 Sorry for the mixed up responses!
No worries! It was certainly amusing. I had to do a little figuring… 😉
😉
What fun! I really liked this.

Thank you, Janet. I have been neglecting my writing of late. I’m so glad you enjoyed this piece. 🙂
Lynda, I’m worried half to death about you. I see that a good portion of your area doesn’t have power now, but it seems the tornado has passed by. Once you get power back and can take a breath, please let us know you’re ok. I’m going to assume that you and Bob are fine. 😉
Sorry for the scare, Linda! We, as you know by now, are just fine. Thank you so much for your concern for us.
This is really cute and gave me a nice laugh while eating my breakfast, thank you
So glad you like it, Angelia!
