WordPress Woes: let’s put it another way

Yesterday’s reblog gave some constructive criticism of the WordPress failings of late.  If you understood the ire of the original blogger’s post, Grahminhats at Freed From Time, and want to continue working with the previous more robust formats then follow his link below.

For those who still don’t understand what we are upset about, well here is a paying blogger’s commentary in simple language which details the aspects of all the changes we are not happy with.  It bears reading.

Fish of Gold

My biggest complaint:   I have not been able to get the new Beep Beep Boop editor to work for me since it was first introduced.  I can’t scroll to see any Tags or Categories past the letter G.  The editing box can’t be resized, and they gave us back Zemanta in the old editor, but I can’t find it in the new one.  It is said they are going to scrap the old editor.  Seriously?

The whole set up is counter intuitive for the blogger who writes more than 100 words with pictures.  (That’s pictures plural)

I came to WordPress because it was so robust, it made blogging fun and easy to accomplish.  I am nearing the end of my free blogging limit and will have to start paying for this privilege in the not so distant future.  However, if it isn’t a helpful service then why would I pay?  Paying customer or Beta Test Rat customer WordPress used to listen when we complained about a really bad move.  Now they seem to have a deaf ear.

I may be beating a dead horse.

Off my soapbox.

About WordPress Changes and What We Can Do

REBLOGGED WITH PERMISSION from: Freed From Time

If you are a WordPress user on a PC desk format and are not happy with the changes to the format for communication, stats and “BEEP BeeP BooP” publishing page, then let’s do something about it! If you like and agree with what you see, then please reblog this post to your site too.   Because unlike in the past, it is clear that Matt Mullenweg and the WP *Helper Monkeys are not listening to us in the forums.

*Helper Monkeys:  Their term not mine.

Underlying Motive

Matt Mullenweg, owner and recently appointed CEO of WordPress, has himself indicated a wish to pursue the mobile market which is made clear in and interview with Forbes click here.   However that interview does not indicate any intention to abandon desk top users.

Add to this, Tiger Global now have at a total of $110 million invested in WP here.  Tiger Global also have investments in the expanding Indian and South American mobile and e-commerce markets.

This is altogether an entirely legitimate business pursuit but it’s gone wrong.

The Problem

The mobile versions of the user interface have been so inept as to spoil its credibility from the outset and at the same time alienate desktop users.  Complaints…

Today halfway through physical therapy I began to tear up.  My heart began to race.  I tried to control it, but it seemed  the harder I tried, the worse it got.  I got up to go to the next station for treatment and suddenly felt faint.

PANIC.

Crying and fainting are not allowed in public.  (My rule.)

I had to go, NOW.

I am uncertain as to the trigger for today’s incident, but feel it had something to do with the unannounced change in Physical Therapists.

All the way home I kept telling myself I don’t need medication.  Haven’t had it, don’t want it, no way!  After all, I have been doing quite well for over a year now and cannot understand this sudden, out of nowhere, fall into the abyss of fear and panic.

How I felt when I got home…

How I felt by the time I got homeEmbarrassed.

It is a mystery.

One that I hope does not repeat itself.

Friday Fictioneers: puff and nonsense

Creative writing in one hundred words is the idea.  Word press says I have 99, Microsoft Word says I have 100.  Don’t care. I’m only in it for the fun!

As always, thanks goes out to Rochelle for her constant procurement and supply of picture prompts to get us going each week!

Puff and Nonsense

It was dusk and she needed to get home before dark. She’d been warned about the Trolls that lived under the bridge. It was said that if you didn’t have the toll to pay them that you would be taken to live with them forever.

Nonsense, she told herself. Little kid stuff to send you running to get home on time and to give you nightmares. I’m not a kid anymore, she thought. Running at a quick trot she started to cross the bridge and thought she heard a growl…

Thinking better of it she decided to take the boat.

Notes on Fairy Tales:

Fairy Tales are found in every culture.   They are almost always didactic, cautionary, or seeking to explain something in nature that wasn’t explained before our scientific minds sought to solve it.

For a child it is easy to believe, and for some of us it is hard to give up the make-believe of our youth.  I jumped into bed every night after turning off the light until I was well into my teens.  Laugh if you will, but who here still believes in ghosts, the chupacabras, or aliens?

I am taking liberties with Georgia Koch’s photo to show you how I came to my story today.

Do you see them?  There are two hiding under the bridge. The one in the middle of this crop is seated in the shadows.  The larger of the two, just left of center, is standing up.

FYI, The ability to see these images is called Pareidolia, and almost all of us have this ability.  OK, some of us are better at it than others, so don’t feel bad if you can’t see those trolls.  You can read a bit about Pareidolia: HERE

Thank you Georgia for sharing your lovely photo art with us!
