Today I went out to do some seed starting on the front porch, and suddenly I was feeling watched.
WAIT A MINUTE, NOT ONLY AM I BEING WATCHED, I‘M BEING BUZZED…
RUN FOR YOUR LIFE IT’S THE WASP FROM HELL!
If you click on the picture, and then click again, you will see that the opening is only about 3/4 of an inch and she is about an inch and a half! Interesting as she is, she is just too close to the front door and I will have to remove the little windchime to another place and hope that she can figure it out. Brave Lynda, Foolish Lynda… I let you know if it works or not. 😛
This sort of reminds me of the time I was hiking one evening when a flying tarantula hung in the air, blocking my path (size 3″-4″ with legs). I looked at it for awhile and then decided to turn back when it didn’t fly away. I didn’t know what I had run into. I asked the forest ranger later what it was and he said it was a wasp, a tarantula hawk on the prowl — fooled tarantulas into thinking it was another tarantula. I’ve since seen them in our neighborhood off and on, but they’re more the size of your visitor (maybe a relative?).

I just realized that I never told all of you that I moved the wind chime to the dogwood tree over in the big side lawn. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh! Luckily for me she was not inside at the time, and I haven’t seen her since. I think she never figured out where her nest went.
