Good Morning!
It is the crack of dawn as I sit here in front of the computer in my studio. Outside my window grows a very large viburnum (Cardinal Candy by name). It is always busy with birds during the daylight hours, but this morning it has one visitor.
A lovely Mockingbird who is singing a serenade, and seemingly, just for me.

Going well thus far. Prepping for setting up for 2 days of demos (Friday/Saturday) at a nearby town’s quilt event…….fun!

Annie, yes I was. He came back mid morning to eat the red berries on the bush and watched me watching him through the window. They are such brazen birds!
We sadly don’t have them here.
Sad, yes, but I imagine you have an equally lovely singer in a tree or bush near you?

Annie, I was just listening to recordings of your Nightingale, and it is a mimicker just like our Mockingbirds. A very nice singer!
Wish I was there! Instead, I’m listening to the bloodcurdling night time screams of the Bush Stone Curlews outside….
Kate, they came back then? You said they might. I found a recording of their sounds last year… it is a bit disturbing. I suspect it is louder in real time than it is in the recordings. 😀
Yes, it definitely is! They did come back, and although thankfully are not nesting close to the house, they’re still stalking around the back yard at night. I’m rather thankful that air conditioning season is upon us and we can keep the windows closed!

You remember I loved sitting at your table in the mornings… so much activity in your yard! I love mornings here too. The cardinals and wrens are always the first to be out and about.
I do, Lori! I usually see them first here, but today it was the Mockingbird singing instead.
When we still lived in our country home (about 18 years ago), we had mockingbirds around and I loved them. Sometimes it would be laughable to hear all of the different calls they imitated. I envy you.
Lillian, I have always loved the Mockingbirds singing. I’ve know so many people who do not appreciate their song in the night. But I do! It actually helps me to relax and sleep. ❤
You probably already know this, but, their songs are region specific! They mimic the sounds of the local bird populations.
